THIS HAPPENED TO ME

Adios, My Friends — It’s Time to Go My Work Here is Done

I began my journey on Medium in January 2021 which seems a lifetime ago but is barely two years.

So how did it all begin?

A family member recommended the platform as a way of getting my writing out there and it sure did the trick. I wrote and read and absorbed everything I possibly could. I went down so many rabbit holes that I had forgotten which one I went down and why I headed there in the first place.

It’s been a ball and a blast. I have met so many great people: writers, readers and editors, and it has, without a doubt, catapulted my writing into another stratosphere.

What was my goal?

My main aim was to write a full-length novel. Some may argue that Medium is not the ideal platform to do that but writing regularly on the platform was like the best self-help teaching course ever. Sure, it cost me $5 a month, but I more than covered that with the income that I earned from the Medium Partnership Program (MPP).

To write a novel is no mean feat. After some research, I discovered that thrillers or crime novels (the genre I enjoy writing) are between 70,000 and 90,000 words. But wait, that is a lot of words. I mean, a lot.

I have started writing so many books throughout my life but I always got lost along the way. Despite having taken a creative writing course some years ago and learned how to plot a novel, however carefully I planned the plot and storyline, I would end up getting so confused and lost that I gave up. Every single time.

THEN I HAD AN IDEA AND I HIT ON A FORMULA THAT WORKED FOR ME

How my dream began

I started a Substack called Rosy’s Ramblings, which went paid in January of this year.
