I’ve Just Been Followed by Justin Bieber!
A dull Wednesday morning in England and it’s raining. I am working at my desk when a notification pings in from Medium.
Justin Bieber started following you.
At first, I thought it was a joke or somebody using his pic on their profile. But no, I wasn’t mistaken. I followed him back (why wouldn’t you?!) and listened to his music video and left a comment. Again, why wouldn’t you?!
At the time I followed him back, he had 23 followers. I wonder how long it will take him to get another 700 followers to equal my following, which incidentally, has taken me four months to achieve. Probably about ten seconds.
I love Justin Bieber’s music and my comment was totally genuine.
Once I had recovered from the shock of such a superstar following little old me, Rosy Gee, I realized of course that he is shamelessly promoting his music video ‘Hold On’.
Good on him and it’s a great song on his album ‘Justice’.
I am quite sure that one of his many, many staffers clicked my Follow button, along with hundreds if not thousands of others, in a bid to gain traction to get people to see his video. It’s called marketing and even superstars have to get their work out their for people to see and, in Justin’s case, hear.
So, here’s the rub. Marketing is a two-way thing so whilst I have shamelessly used Justin’s superstar status to draw views and followers for my writing, in doing so I have spread the word about his great music.
That seems like a fair trade to me. Don’t you?!
Thanks for reading. There’s plenty more here together with some short stories and poetry.
